Vacations part 3: back home

// August 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Hinote, Mortis

We flew that Sunday. I had still a week of vacations. We were happy to go home. We had so much lugagge and felt quite hungry at Pearson, but decide to go home. I was also glad T fixed their garbage strike. We got home and 10 minutes after it was like we need food time to take a walk and grocery ^^ We stopped at my favorite asian noodle place, I got my classic chicken brown rice, pineapple cashew and peanut sauce. After that we walked to the 3 grocery close to get stuff for the evening. T spent the next 2 weeks around 95F-107F it was so warm and humid, it changed our plans for doing things we wanted to go to the zoo, but 5 hours walking in those conditions seem a bad idea. We will go soon.

When we got home I plugged everything back, internet and the computer, I had to reset Rogers terminal from their website. Aki booted fine, but we got some problem with Mr Purple. Hinote was so glad to be home in her things. And it was so nice to get the cloud back. My parents made a new room for us, but the matress they bought is very firm.

The next day we just did errands to get more food. I sunburned with that small walk. So for the rest of the week every day started with breakfast, shower, put sun screen and go out, even for a 10 minutes walk. Hinote made her her butetr chicken with small potatoes and rice. We both missed it a lot, so we wanted to make it as soon in Toronto. We watched a movie at night. I also got a domain name for her and one for me using our names in it. And I also got a month of WoW for Syrenia. We played some that night.

Monday we decide to go at Eaton for some Chipotle. We ate that week the food we missed while gone. I got an Itunes card to try their movies service. We walked to make the food move down, and after that Coldstone! Hinote always mentionned how great the ice cream is there, and that I should try it if going in the US, but they opened one downtown. So we got waffle bowl, with cookie dow ice cream for her, and cream for me.

When we got home, I downloaded Push and we watched it on Itunes. Good movie I had no expectation for it.

The rest of the week we WoW a lot, watch stuff, web round, finally having our computer and just enjoyed being home together. 3.2 Hit while we were gone, so lot’s of stuff changed in the game. I felt rusted.

Also, if someone ask you to watch, download Knowing, with Nicolas Cage, just don’t. Go sleep, do your taxes, it will be more entertaining. It started like a mystery movie like da vinci code, switched to horror in one scene, after that a typical destruction movie with such a poor physic explaination, religious at the end, and aliens O_O. We spent like an hour after the movie finding new flaws in it. Just do yourself the favor and dont watch, even by accident.

Vacations part 2: Vive le Québec…

Playing - Les Cowboys Fringants: Rue des souvenirs.

This song  make me think of my childhood, a nostalgie from the past, your memory always making it feel better that it was sometime.

We landed in Québec city, there was a long line at custom. Took some time to explain to the agent, why we were travelling from Chicago, Québec, Toronto, one canadian passport and one US. We met my parents, pack the car and stop the the Normandin because it’s always on the way before going in the park. It was 5pm, so we were quite hungry, Hinote tried the wrap and I got a chicken grilled panini. We talked with them about our US trip, got news of my family etc.

It was cloudy and quite cold in Québec city, and it seem it would be the weather we would get while here. We drove 2 hours in the woods, when we got home we were so tired, we falled asleep fast, my parents made a room for us downstair so we have privacy.Tonnerre was happy to see me, but you can see he is getting old. He still have his temper tho.Anger is the only feeling he seem to know.

My mom made muffins and fruit salad for breakfast. That would be our breaskfast for the next 2 weeks, she was always making new kind of muffins for us, and a different fruits salad. I normaly don’t eat much from breakfast, but when there is 20 muffins waiting on the table…We took the day to relax, I surfed a little on dad computer, my old one, Misono, and I did tiny errands with Hinote, getting the stuff missing or that we didn’t bring , traveling by plane.Mom made crepes for dinner, and I stopped at the video club to get 4 movies for 4 days. We always catch up with movies in summer, everything being close at early in the region. We watched a movie after dinner with my parents.

The monday was my cousin birthday. But the funeral of her dad was the day after, so we were not sure how to act on it. I wanted to go shop for a gift for her. After the tough year she got, and she mentionned it often, I decide to give her a pink ipod nano. We also picked up a wireless router at staples, we wanted to use Hinote laptop to surf or our ipod also, but dad only got one connexion. After dinner, we set it up. Violet became our main computer for the next 2 weeks. Sharing a computer was something new for us :laughs: but it went well, I was doing my web round on the couch in the morning. But its why I will probably get a small netbook. My dad drove us at my cousin around 9pm, we gave her the gift, I chatted a little with my aunt and we left. We watched another movie that night.

Tuesday morning we got ready for the afternoon. It was the first day that was sunny since we were here. I took my mom car and we got to the funeral home from 1pm to 5pm. I met a lot of my family there. Its was open until 10 pm, but the formal funeral was the day after, so when it close at 5, we left and drove back to IGA. The atmosphere is always heavy  from funeral, and we decide to make a salad together, after all that food from vacations. We felt quite relax going at grocery there, large space for aisle, not much people and stress like downtown. We made a huge salad, spinach, cucumber, peper, tomatoes, crouton, my hometown cheese and renee dressing off course for Hinote. We bought a small brewery maple québec beer but it was not that good.

The Wednesday was the funeral. We got in the funeral home in the morning, and got to church after. I remember standing on the stair in front of the Saguenay river, waiting to go in. The cathedral is really beautiful. After that, we got a small lunch at the funeral home. Later that night, my friend Math visit us, he played a little on the PSP and after that we left to go play pool while Hinote stayed at home so we can get some guys time. We played and chat, so it was quite calm. We got donuts on the way home, but I only ate one.I know him since I’m 12 years old, so it’s still funny to see we are still thinking the same.

Thursday was was coquillage day! It’s a tradition since I left Québec, I feel like I miss nature, after all the highway and high rise. We drove by La Baie, stop at la fromagerie Boivin to get fresh cheese curd, and stopped at a place where I really love the view :

My dad got coffee for Hinote and my mom on the way. It’s funny, he got cofffee for both of them a lot of night during the 2 weeks we were there. We stopped in l’Anse Saint-Jean to get fresh pies from Louise bakery. My dad just love her rasberries pies. After that we drove to Charlevoix.We stopped 30 minutes to a big fall that is well hidden in the wood, with a small dirt trail. We took pictures and movie there. We stopped on a beach next to the Saint-Laurent river. we ate on top on the mountain before going on the beach.My mom made us chicken breast panini with veggie and cheese and we ate some of the fresh rasberries pies. We walked there for an hour or 2, my feet in the water, relaxing to the wave sound, and cold water, finding coquillage, seeing live shrimp also. It feel so calm with my feet in the water. I got at archambault that night and got la fille qui revait d’un bidon d’essence  et d’une allumette. The second book of the millenium triology. I read late at night in my hometown.

When we got home we made a fire also, so my petite amie can do her famous multi layered guimauve.

The Friday me and Hinote decide to shop. She always love going to the mall there, always finding good sales. We also have the car, no stress from people walking all over like Eaton center. I got a component wired for my PSP. Hinote found some shirts on sales, she was quite happy about it. We walked around the mall, while drinking a green tea matcha smootie. I call Math in the mall parking, and I pick him up at home, we left Hinote there, she made dinner for her, and we drove to the neigbhour pizzeria. Pizza with a crust of melted burn cheese, with bacon and pepperoni. It tasted like home. *_* We rented movies after.We stopped at IGA for fresh bread for toast (honey bread) and got a 6 pack of Unibroue Honey beer.

We watched half of watchmen and got bored, so we watched the last underworld after. We made a fire. Math said in his blog that he is the best to make them, so I had to test him. We made great toast and guimauve while chatting a little. It was a very nice evening. We took a picture when he left.

Saturday we did some errands and mom made a fondue, Hinote’s favorite meal. Small lean slice of meat, bread, fried rice and mom found a cake she froze. I was joking with her, saying she always have a back up cake in case it’s needed.

The Sunday was my father last day of vacation. We drove to my grand father cottage. I searched for small strawberry with Hinote, I swim for maybe an hour, my uncle said the water was at 72. Hinote stayed on the deck. Water felt cold, but I miss being in a pool so much, so its always nice to swim. When we were ready to leave, we stopped at my uncle cottage to say hi. We end up in his hot tub next to the lake, quite relaxing at 95F for the water and after that we did a boat ride, high speed on the lake. It felt so great. The dog was walking all over the boat. When we got home we watched Defiance.

For the second week, my memory are less clear. The weather was quite bad, with a lot of rain and cold, so we couldn’t do as much we wanted. So we enjoyed some time home, trying to rest. My mom made us steak and fries one night. She used a pot for fries, so I decide I would get her a fryer for that week.I got the last Millénium books and read it quite fast during the evening and morning.

We also saw an old picture of us at our first summer there, with Hinote with purple hair, and me with small beard and shave head. Hinote mentionned how cute I looked, so I said let’s go get an hair clipper. We stopped at a store when I could get some boxers, found a hair clipper, and after I teached her how to make my hair. She was nervous but did a great work. It was strange to see me like this again, took some day to get use to it again.

We made more fires at night. My mom made brochettes, pineapple upside down cake, peanut butter muffins. We decided to print some of the summer pictures so we stopped at a photo print shop, while we waited an hour, we found a good jeans jacket for Hinote. 7$ shes loves my region pricing. The day after we stopped for ice cream, Hinote got frozen yogurt, I tried a crazy sunday cup, so sweet. We got mom a safe fryer, with a container where you don’t need to touch the oil. Mom was quite surprise, and tested it the day after.

The Friday, I stopped at my aunt to see her, and my cousin with her kids. I wanted to see everyone, made sure they were ok, and played with the kids. We stayed for an hour on the deck, Chico (the dog) running around, playing with a ball, and chatting with them.We also got at Mikes an evening to try the brownie volcano together. The dessert is so big, you need to people to eat it, a dozen piece of brownies, ice cream, whipped cream, nuts. We felt so full after.

The saturday we got breakfast all together at Cora’s. Giant gauffre with a billion (rough estimate) strawberry on it. It was the last day in my hometown. We could have done something, but I just feel like staying home, resting on the deck, chatting with my parents, packing. I falled asleepa round midnight and hinote continue to pack and join me after. It was different for her to sleep 6 hours before travelling.

We woke up early, pack the car and drove to Québec city. We got there, got rid of luggage, took a coffee and chat with my parents for an hour while eating a tim muffins. Security was fast and we waited for the plane, reading and trying to surf. I got a science & vie but I haven’t read it yet. It was sunny for the fly, but it seem Toronto would pay later that day.

You always feel sad leaving that place, but at the same time, I was craving time home with me and Hinote alone.H aving Hinote now with me, makes things so better. Normally after vacations, I felt down, for august. My girlfriend, family and friends so far. It’s possible now that I see my region with rose-colored glasses, I only go there on vacations now, so I missed those summer trips, relaxing with her there but I still see how life can become boring there. And also how the rhythm of life is so slower and more relax. So I always crave the next vacation there in summer. I think we got a nice 2 weeks, we needed to relax, and my hometown is the perfect place for that. I wish we could have visit Québec city, but next year it will be fun to visit. But this time I will make sure to book hotel in advance to make sure we go. Or maybe a trip in other région also, like Gaspésia.

See you soon Saguenay kingdom!

Vacations part 1: USA USA

// August 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Hinote, Mortis

I was hoping I could blog a lot during the vacation, but of course I got lazy. I will post a lot today, just to catch up, while BO server is installing.

Vacations have been quite relaxing. The USA part was all about spending time with her siblings and her family. The Québec part about relaxing at my parents house or like we say it, chillax (chill - relax), and the Toronto part about spending time together.

The last day of work was boring, most people were gone in vacation already, and the level of motivation at its lowest. When I got home, I had to pack,mostly new clothes, getting my weight down to 199, and finish cleaning the apartment, so it look nice when I came back with Hinote. I was done around 1am and slept until 7am. Left home around 9am, the taxi driver was an ex IBM engineer, so it was a chat about database while in the car. Pearson was empty when I got there, one person waiting in line for ticket, and 2 in front of me for security. So in 5 minutes I was at my gate, 2 hours to kill before boarding. Mostly listenened to my ipod and played some NES games on my PSP.

Hinote and her brother pick me at the airport. It was so nice to see her after 2 months ^_^ We got the wrong exit, and end up driving by Chicago downtown. It was around 4 when we reached the town and we were all hungry. So it was time for famous Chicago beef  sandwich from Portillo’s, with fries and milkshakes. Yummy.

We spent some time eating dinner all together, it was so long since I saw her siblings. Hinote installed a air matress next to her bed in her bedroom. We felt like teenager’s having a sleep over. I expected that IL would be quite warm, in the 100F, but it been cold, so we slept quite well, and she has a giant fan over her bed, so it felt very comfortable.

Sunday we drove to her aunt to get an traditionnal Italian dinner. Hinote always said that her aunt food is the best italian food you can get, and after tasting it, I have to agree with her. Lasagna, Pasta with homemade gravy (sauce), meat ball, garlic bread, salad, and key lime pie, strawberry pie and carrot cake. We ate so well that day. I met more of her family there, uncles and cousins. Monday we took the day at home so she could work on hw. We played monopoly with her youngest brother, it’s a good way to count. I had like 25% of all the places, while Hinote only got the most pricy one, and she won that way, so later that week I used that strategy against her…

Tuesday we got to Fry’s, a big electronic store. I look at netbook and some hardware but didn’t get any.  I will probably get a netbook soon, so HInote can use it during the day at school instead of carrying her giant laptop. We ate the heaviest burrito I ever got that day. Her parents also got the refrigerator full of tiny ice cream (so cute *_*), it’s like individual package, I ate some all week.I played some Mario Striker and  left for dead wednesday night with her younger brother. For some reason, i love Mario Striker. I bought it for her siblings for christmas. Her brother also spend a lot of time with my PSP and also Resident Evil 5. The game seem really good, but mostly like a shooter now, not  survival horror.

The Thursday morning, when i woke up, I had a IM from mom saying that my uncle died, after 2 years battle with the cancer. He was close to the family, and I moved at my cousin when going in Ontario, so it’s close family. Mom wanted to let me know and that the funeral would probably be while we were in Québec. Hinote worked more on her homework that night, while all her siblings were in her room. We ate the famous Chicago style deep dish pizza that night. the Pizza is so huge you only take one slice, Giordano’s pizza:

Friday was our last day in the US. It was a stressfull day, cause Hinote has a exam in the morning, so she studied all night, and we were suppose to go see her aunt after. While se was in college, I got ready and ate breakfast. They had like 10 boxes of cereals because of a big family, so I felt like in a store. When Hinote was ready we pick her up. There was construction all over in the parking, so we had to find another place. I walked in to see her, and there was 2 deers crossing my path. We left the town after, but got lost because of wrong map quests info. We finally got to her aunt around 4pm. Everyone was very nice, I was glad I could meet her aunt finally, she’s the one that make it possible for Hinote to come study in T. We ate there, more US pizza *_*, and her aunt drove us to the airport because her brother had to work until midnight. We took a limo from the airport and got to her parents house around 9pm. Her dad drove everyone to DQ, so we got Ice cream together. When we got home we tried to spend some time with everyone, Hinote felt tired, but she had to pack , she brought things there for 2 months. I falled asleep on the bed, and when I waked up around 7am, I watched a movie, Tout est parfait, on my ipod. I wake her up after, and we finished packing and get ready. We said goodbye to everyone, filled the car and got drinks cause her brother felt sick, and we hit the road, more paying highway. It’s funny for me, cause every pay stop have different price, 50 cents, 80 cents, etc so her brother have a big can full of change just for that.

We got at the airport, did the ticket thing (for some reasons the machine doesn’t like canadian passports), long line at security, but they opened a line just for us, and close it after we were done  o_o so it was fast for us! We got a juice for Hinote, and I ate a banana bread and chocolate at Starbuck while waiting for the plane. We took pictures of the tunnel of the airport with all the lights also. We were not sitting together for the fly, but they had to move people in executive classe, so I found place where we could sit together. We hold each other, Hinote trying to sleep, finally her summer classes over, so she can rest, while I was listening to music and ticking of the US part of the trip.

This trip was really for meeting her siblings and her family, so I’m glad I could do that. I enjoyed playing Mario Striker, monopoly and video game with her younger brother, laughs with her sister and her stories, spend time around and talking tech stuff with her older brother, being sarcastic with her dad, and watching stuff with her mom while chatting., and ratdog is very entertaining. The food was great, and strangely I didn’t gain weight, but it would change, with 2 weeks of my mom food.

Random stuff,raiding, hometown trip, construction?

// March 27th, 2009 // No Comments » // Hinote, Mortis

Last week, Wednesday, we were suppose to continue Naxx at 7pm. I logged on at 6:30PM, to get flask,etc Half of our raid was missing, we end up doing OS at 9pm. Another new dungeon, but it’s a fast one. You need to kill a big drake and 3 smaller one plus trash. So it take only like 45 minutes. If you want to make it harder for better loot, you don’t kill the 3 smaller one, it give extra buffs to the boss. We had fun time, clearing it but not before we aggro trash mobs during boss fight, or that I get all the eggs hatching with baby dragons so the fight get 2 times harder, but we didn’t die. After we did the vault and continue Naxx but at midnight I had to leave, so I didn’t progress far in this one.

Hinote has a presentation with her lab partner the Thursday morning, so he was at the apartment around 9pm and they worked on it. So you had intense physic discussion, ventrilo for raiding going on at the same time. Her presentation went well tho. I pick her up at school, reading Evolution, starting a new Baxter book, this one going through all the ages of Earth. Right now he put you in a dinosaur mind, so it’s a strange read.

Friday after work we met and eat at a new asian noodle restaurant. You choose the type of noodle (rice, soba, plain rice) etc what you want to put in it (I got cashew, pineapple) and what kind of sauce you want. It was spicy but surprisingly good.

We spend a calm weekend. Hinote needed a hw break, and we just chilled out together. She made me a lasagna *_*..We watched W also. Good movie, tho it’s strange to watch a movie where you dont feel any form of sympathy for the main character. Drefuss was quite looking like Cheney. Tho my main question is why they made the actor playing Karl Rove looking like he had a head malformation.

They are suppose to do some removing of old pipes on our street next week. Possible that they will have to put dry wall down in our room. I’m really not thrill about it. Not sure of the impact it will have in the apartment and if we will need to move for some days. I will work at home this day, in case I need to move more stuff out of the way.

Saw my cousin and her bf last night. It was strange to do the old bus ride, seeing the town where I live for 4 years, waiting for her them at that mall. It feel so ..familiar.Same feeling happen when I go back in my hometown. Things changed, but still.  But I’m happy in T. My cousin brought me a crate of my mom pasta sauce. We will try it tonight. Nothing like the taste of the food you grew up with.

Possible we go in my hometown for easter. Leaving like the thursday night and getting back sunday. Quick trip with long road. Tho with 4 people (adults) it will be quite something. My cousin also have 2 dvd screens at the back for the kid, so I’m sure we can use that if not sleeping. Still not confirmed tho,  lots of details to figure out.
